Essential Job Functions

⦁    Performs complex and thorough commercial and residential pre-construction plan review for compliance with codes and ordinances.
⦁    Represents the building/fire division in pre-application meetings.
⦁    Performs inspection of residential and commercial buildings.
⦁    Explains, interprets and provides guidance regarding applicable codes to architects, engineers, contractors, developers, owners and the public.  Advises on areas of non-compliance and actively assists in resolving issues.
⦁    Works collaboratively with code compliance officers, building and fire inspectors, permitting staff, planners, engineers and other City staff so that all aspects of a project can be well coordinated.  Consults effectively with staff on processes, projects, interpretations and inquiries.
⦁    Maintains complete and accurate records of approved plans and correspondence for each project.
⦁    Provides guidance to customers for the permit application process.  Tracks documents submitted for review.  Monitors application progress.  Assists in calculating review fees.
⦁    Updates and maintains handouts, brochures and technical data sheets to provide accurate and up to date information on regulations.
⦁    Assists and advises departmental and interdepartmental staff on technically difficult and complex aspects of building code and fire code compliance.
⦁    Provides research and input on codes and amendments.

Qualification Requirements
⦁    Bachelor Degree in construction management, architecture, engineering or closely related field.
⦁    Three years of experience in building and/or fire code inspection and plan review.
⦁    Must possess ICC Building Plans Examiner (B3) certification and maintain through employment.
⦁    Must obtain ICC Residential Inspector (B1) certification within one year of hire and ICC Fire/Plans Examiner (F3) certification within two years of hire and maintain both through employment.
⦁    Lawful and active driver license.  Must obtain WA State license within six months of hire.
⦁    Bilingual, English and Spanish, language abilities preferred.
